Grades 5-8 A.M. Drop off Procedure
Since the promotion of safety and the avoidance of accidents are a joint home and school responsibility, we ask for your cooperation with the following arrival and dismissal procedures:
All drivers must follow the carpool lines and procedures in the morning and afternoon. Cars should never enter an area where barricades/cones are in place.
Morning Arrival
Students must stay in their vehicles until 7:40am, or until adult supervision is in place, and will exit to the playground area. Students must arrive to school by 8:00am. During inclement weather, students will report directly to the lobby. On inclement weather days, the drop-off procedure will be the same.
For safety reasons, students must exit vehicles on the passenger side. If a vehicle has a child safety lock, parents must make a sign for child locks and display it in the passenger window if they require help with their doors. Drivers should remain in their vehicles. Patrols and/or staff on duty are available to students requiring assistance. Students should be prepared to disembark (i.e., coat on, packed backpack etc.) before entering the carpool line. WHEN IN LINE, DO NOT PASS VEHICLES THAT ARE UNLOADING STUDENTS.
Grades 5 - 8 Drop Off Procedures
The Parish Side of the building will be the drop off site for students in grades 5-8. Carpools with students in grades K-8 need to drop off students first in grades K-4 through the usual method. Those cars will then proceed to the Parish Side where students in grades 5-8 will be dropped off at the first door. Carpools with only students in grades 5-8 may proceed directly to the Parish Side. Note: This if for drop off only. All students are dismissed on the school side parking lot.
We have staff members situated at the door and in the hallways to make sure students get to their classes. Students in grades 5-8 will proceed directly from their cars to their homerooms.
Carpools need to proceed to the end of the parking lot, turn around and exit as usual. Remember to drive through the parking lot at a slow speed and be courteous of others.
This will alleviate the number of students lined up in front of the school in the morning and allow those students the opportunity to get situated for the day. Students in grades K-4 will continue to line up in front of the school and wait for their teachers to escort them to the classroom.
CAUTION: Cars coming into school from Centreville Road have the right of way over cars exiting the parking lot. All cars traveling in the school parking lot, whether to the school side or the parish side to drop off 5-8 students, must yield to cars entering from Centreville Road.
Afternoon Dismissal
For safety reasons and speed of exiting the carpool lanes, preschoolers must remain in their vehicles at all times during dismissal procedures. Upon exiting the building students are to report directly to their vehicles so that the carpool lines may exit the parking lot in a timely fashion. Parents should retrieve their children if students aren't forthcoming. Parents must not engage in parent teacher or parent to parent conferences during dismissal. Please arrange appointment times through email or voice mail.
To ensure the safety of our students and school families, vehicles must have engines turned off at 3:00 p.m., before students exit the building. Cell phones cannot be used on school grounds until drivers are safely parked and engines are turned off.
Students will not be allowed to return to the classroom after exiting the building at dismissal. If your child has forgotten needed materials in the classroom, drivers must follow carpool procedures. After exiting the carpool lane you may pull into a parking space and wait until all cars have exited. ONLY THEN can students return to the building.
Change In Transportation
When a student's normal mode of transportation is changed, parents must send a note to the office stating the change in plans. If there is a change due to an emergency, please call the office as soon as possible to ensure that your child receives notice before dismissal. The school office must have a carpool form on file for families that participate in carpool arrangement with other families. Thank you for your consideration and cooperation regarding these important safety procedures.
