Dear Parents and Teachers,
First Day of School - All School Mass
Monday, August 25th is the first day of school. School
begins at 8:30am with an All School Mass. Parents are requested to
accompany their child(ren) to Mass. Students do not sit with their
classes at this time. After Mass, I will introduce teachers and the
students will accompany them to their classrooms. Parents are invited
to join me in the Parish Hall after Mass for a “Welcome Back” coffee.
Monday, August 25th is also a scheduled 12:00 Noon
Dismissal. Please note that the regular starting time of 8:00am begins
on Tuesday, August 26th. Morning carpool will begin on
Tuesday, August 26th.
Open House on Friday, August 22nd
All families are invited to our Open House on Friday, August 22nd
from 1:00 – 3:00pm.
At this time, you may visit classrooms, meet your teachers, and drop off
supplies. Innisbook supply boxes will be in the classrooms for families
who ordered them.
Lunch Orders
We have contracted with Fairfax Food Service and Caterers to provide hot
lunch service Monday – Thursday. If you wish to order hot lunch for
your child(ren), please go to the school website and click on the lunch
program link. This will take you to their website where you can order
online. Only online orders will be accepted. The last day to order
for September is Thursday, August 28th. No orders will be
accepted for September after that date. The first day for hot lunch is
Tuesday, September 2nd.
After School Care
Families interested in enrolling their child(ren) in our after school
program must fill out registration information found on the school
website. Rates and hours of operation are on the website.
School Forms
Friday Family Folders will come home the first day of school. Please
make sure to return information forms to the school by Thursday, August
28. Friday Family Folders will be used every week, so please be sure to
always return them to the school office.
Back to School Night
Be sure to join us for Back to School night Thursday, September 4th.
We will begin with the first PTO General Membership meeting at 7:00pm in
the Parish Hall. Following, there will be a brief introduction of all
homeroom teachers. Homeroom teachers will be in their classrooms and
have information for parents.
These sessions are intended to give teachers the chance to distribute
classroom information and provide a general overview of the year. If
you wish to have a more in-depth conversation with your child’s teacher,
please contact them to schedule a separate appointment.
Smart Tuition – Follow-Up Service For Late Payments
The first school tuition payment was due on August 10. Beginning this
year Smart will initiate its Late Follow-Up Service for families who are
late making tuition payments. Late families will be contacted by Smart
via email and/or telephone. A follow-up fee of $20 will be charged to
your account. The school will not charge a late fee. You will only be
responsible to pay the $20 Smart follow-up fee.
School Band Program
There will be an information meeting for interested parents and students
in grades 4-8 August 28th at 7:00pm in the Parish Hall. Our
band director, Ms. Laura Scheidt, will be present at this meeting where
she will explain the program and be available for questions. Parents
will have the opportunity to register their child for the program at
this time. The Music and Arts Center will also be available to assist
parents in the rental of musical instruments.
Students who participate in the program will receive weekly lessons.
The lessons are on a rotating schedule during school every Wednesday.
Students will be responsible for making up any class work they
miss. Parents who contract with the Garwood Whaley School of Music will
be charged a fee for the lessons.
PTO NOTES:
Wanted: Lunch or
Recess Volunteers Needed Immediately
The PTO is looking for volunteers for recess duty so we can safely
supervise the children. For lunch duty, three to four volunteers would
help lunch run more smoothly, especially during the first few months
back at school. If we are unable to increase the current number of
recess and lunch volunteers, our teachers will have to cover for us when
they themselves should be eating lunch and preparing for their
afternoon.
If you feel you can volunteer for this important duty, please contact
Dyan or Gill Egan at
dyan.e.egan@us.ibm.com with the dates you are available to volunteer
and whether you would like to sign up for recess or lunch duty. If you
don’t have a preference for weekday recess/lunch duty, please indicate
this as well.
Friday Pizza Coordinators Needed
We are in need of at least two volunteers to coordinate ordering and
serving Domino’s pizza each Friday. Please contact the school if you
are interested.
Attention Volunteers - VIRTUS Training and Fingerprint and Background
Check Clinic
All volunteers are required by the Diocese of Arlington to attend a
VIRTUS training course on sexual misconduct entitled “Protecting God’s
Children.” Please go to
www.VIRTUS.org to register for a training course. In
addition to the VIRTUS training, volunteers are required to be
fingerprinted and undergo a background check. A notary and police
officer will be available in the Parish Hall on “Back to School Night”,
Thursday, September 4th at 6:00 PM for your convenience in filling out
background check paperwork and having your fingerprints taken. Once
VIRTUS training and background checks are complete, please submit your
paperwork to the school office.
Volunteers will not be able to assist at school or on field trips unless
the training and paperwork have been completed.
Innisbrook!!!!!!
Our school has once again partnered with Innisbrook to offer premium
gift wrap and chocolates as well as a great selection of gourmet foods,
tea, hostess gift items, candles, and children’s gifts. You will find a
great selection of reasonably priced products perfect for holiday gift
giving. Stop by the school lobby to take a look at our display and
preview some of the great products Innisbrook has to offer.
Mrs. Kathy Dallessandro and Mrs. Heather Hitchcock are coordinators for
this year’s campaign! They have terrific incentives this year. We will
kick off our 2008-2009 campaign during lunch periods Tuesday, August 26th.
You can place your order through the school or you can go directly to
www.innisbrook.com, pay by credit card and have your order shipped
directly to your home. Please be sure to enter our school number
(105465) to ensure that we receive the credit for your order. Our
school receives a 50% profit from each sale, so every order counts!
We need your support to make this year’s Innisbrook Fall Fundraiser a
success. Last year’s campaign raised over $8,000 and we are setting our
goal even higher this year! Thank you very much for your support!
School Golf Tournament
The 4th Annual St. Veronica Golf Tournament is scheduled for
1:00pm on Thursday, September 25th. The event will take
place at the prestigious South Riding Golf Course and includes a
fun-filled day of golf, contests, prizes, dinner and more! Feel free to
invite friends, family, and sponsors to the event. For more information
and/or to register, please go to
www.stveronicagolf.com.
There, now that I have the formalities out of the way, let me just say
you do not need to be a golf ace to play! Even Tiger started as a
beginner! Come on out and enjoy a beautiful course with our school
community.
