Dear Parents,
It's hard to believe that we have finished a week of school, but here it
is, Friday already! We have had a very busy and productive week in
Fourth Grade, and I am enjoying my time with your children
tremendously. They are bright, inquisitive, kind, and genuinely fun to
be with!
We have spent quite a bit of time working on classroom and school
procedures this week, as well as assessments in several subject areas,
primarily math. I would like to urge you to work on the 1 through 12
times tables with your children. Many of us are still trying to "count
it out" on our fingers and toes, and this will slow us down tremendously
as we progress through Grade 4 Math, which builds almost completely on
the multiplication facts. Two good websites for at-home practice of the
multiplication tables are
www.mathisfun.com and
www.mathplayground.com. If you need additional suggestions on
multiplication table review, or would like to clarify the extent of your
child's needs, please don't hesitate to contact me.
I am happy to report that my Schoolnotes page is finally up and
running! I will begin posting assignments there on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
To access this information, please go to
http://new.schoolnotes.com. (Please note that this is different
from last year!). You will need to enter my full name (Allison Smith)
and the school zip code (20151). You can also select an option that
will electronically notify you when I update the page with each day's
assignments.
I look forward to seeing all of you at Back To School night on Thursday,
September 4. I will keep my comments brief that evening so that I can
address your questions. If you need to contact me before Thursday,
please feel free to do so at
asmith@stveronicaschool.org.
In Christ,
Allison Smith |

On Monday, August 24, please send your child with the following:
LABELED school supplies, including all
folders, notebooks and composition books, pencils and pens (only
4-5 pencils please!) markers, crayons, pencil bag, etc. I will
be glad to store the construction paper in the classroom so that
it stays nice for class projects.
Small, nutritious snack. This must be
nut-free. It is much easier if your child’s snack is packed
separately from his or her lunch and marked as "snack", as it
will avoid confusion as to what should be eaten when. Students
may also keep a small water bottle with a pop-top lid on their
desk. Students will have snack DAILY so please plan accordingly.
Mass etiquette---We will attend Mass on
Monday and Friday next week, then weekly on Fridays and on Holy
Days. I will expect students to behave as young ladies and
gentlemen in Mass, to participate fully, and to show the proper
reverence and respect to our Lord during Mass. Students will be
given the opportunity to use the restroom before and after
Mass---only in serious circumstances will they be permitted to
leave Mass to use the restroom. If necessary, please review
proper Mass behavior with your daughter or son before Friday
morning.
Please review the Parent/Student
Handbook (available on-line at www.stveronicaschool.org)
regarding uniform requirements, hair length, nail polish and
jewelry policies.
During the course of the week, please send your
child with:
A rosary for use during class. I would
prefer that this be an inexpensive rosary or one without
sentimental value as sometimes things get broken or go missing
in the classroom.
A book to read when all seatwork is
complete or for free reading time. We have a small classroom
library for this purpose as well. Students will need to keep a
free reading book in their desk at all times.
Students will need an old t-shirt or
other large smock for art. Please label this shirt as Mrs.
Lockwood will have many art smocks to keep track of!
Please be sure to read and sign all
forms that will be coming home in the next few weeks. It is so
helpful to the ladies in the office if they receive all the
necessary information in a timely manner.
I understand that getting back into the routine of school is an
adjustment for all of us, so please make sure that your child gets a
little extra rest in these first few weeks. We have much to accomplish
in the days ahead, and a well-rested child has an easier time learning
and paying attention! (Not to mention a well-rested teacher!)
