Dear Parents,
Welcome back to
another exciting new year at St. Veronica Catholic School! I always
look forward to working with your students while watching them grow in
knowledge and in spirit. And, I enjoy working with many of you while we
serve our community with fervor and grace. Our annual accomplishments
never cease to amaze me.
This year, the
students will continue their growth in computer literacy, writing and
desktop publishing skills and information management and retrieval while
using the Office 2007 suite for Windows Vista and teacher guided use of
the internet. Younger students in K-3 will also use Kid Pix Deluxe 4 and
Paint to introduce graphics concepts. Keyboarding skills will be taught
using the Typing Master Pro software which can be viewed at
http://www.typingmaster.com. A demo version
may be downloaded for use at home. Some Go! products used together with
the Vernier software,
http://www.vernier.com/go/index.html, will be
used to enrich science, math and information retrieval skills while in
the lab.
Students will acquire
computer skills while engaging in project based learning projects such
as creating text documents, web pages, multimedia presentations,
disassembling a computer, and performing teacher guided online research.
And while working towards the diocesan curriculum mapping initiative,
projects will incorporate core subject matter that compliment the
information being taught in homerooms. For example last year, the fifth
grade students created a Latin calendar using Word skills to help them
learn Roman numerals in math and their Latin days of the week and
months. While using Word, the students learned how to make a table,
adjust row and column size, align text in cells and import graphics into
a Word document. Some students were not aware that one could use Word
instead of Excel to create and work with a table.
Look for student
work posted on this webpage. Mrs. Hilburger, our amazing schoolweb master,
has posted work our 3rd and 4th graders have done this year in KidPix,
as well as some of the web pages our eighth grade students created last year
using MS Publisher software.
Feel free to
contact me anytime at
anunez@stveronicaschool.org
or visit the lab. My class schedule is posted
outside right next to the door. If you forget to pick up my grading
sheet and letter during back-to-school night, don’t worry because Mrs.
Hilburger will post a copy of it on my teacher page.
Hope to see you around
the school campus.
Mrs. Nuñez
