St. Veronica School offers music instruction through the Garwood Whaley Music Program.  The Program is the official program of instrumental music instruction for the Diocese of Arlington Schools.  Classes are offered for a fee during regular school hours.  Some of the benefits of learning to play an instrument include learning discipline,  cooperation with others, and a new way to a fuller, richer life.

Latin Certamen

_____________________________________________________________________

The certamen is a team competition much like It’s Academic.  Questions are based on Latin literature, mythology, grammar, history and culture.  It’s an intense competition that takes place in January this year at Flint Hill School in Fairfax.

St Veronica School has two teams, Latin 1-a level and Latin 1 level.  They will go head-to-head against schools ranked nationally, including Thomas Jefferson High School. The judges of this competition are Latin teachers from around the region.

Challenge Girls

_____________________________________________________________________

Challenge is a national leadership club for girls in grades 5-9.

Meets weekly.

Strategy: leaders form leaders.  High school Challenge girls serve as role models and teachers for the younger girls. These team leaders plan and run the meetings, teaching the younger girls about a specific virtue or aspect of the Catholic faith through the use of a Gospel Reflection, games, and other activities.

Motto: Challenge yourself, Challenge others, and Challenge the world. The girls participate in regular apostolic service projects that seek to serve others and bring them closer to Christ.

Objective: to explore our Catholic faith, form friendships, and serve our parish and community in an atmosphere of Christian charity.  The girls also have the opportunity to attend local Challenge camps, retreats, and to receive regular spiritual direction.

Challenge is an affiliate of Mission Network, sponsored by Regnum Christi. For more info or to register go to www.challengeclubs.net.

The St. Veronica Challenge Club meets from Sept. to May.

Little FLowers

_____________________________________________________________________

Meets weekly

A mother/daughter club that provides young Catholic girls,

ages 5 & up, the opportunity to learn about the virtues and our Catholic heritage, faith and traditions. There is already a part of you that has said yes to God.  Little Flowers nurtures and supports that part in our daughters’ early years.

Do all the moms have to be at the all the meetings?

No, we have a group of moms that have volunteered to run every meeting.

The moms that cannot help run the meetings help with other jobs that can be done from home.

The Little Flowers Girls’ Club was meant for mothers and daughters to work together.  For that reason we will provide a “Family Activity Sheet” to give the moms, or whole family, the opportunity to sit together and talk about our faith to expand and re-enforce the virtue that we are exploring.

During the meetings the girls will learn about a virtue, the female saint that represents such virtue, how our Blessed Mother displayed the virtue or how we as Catholics live that virtue; in order to earn the badge for each virtue.

Through the year we have different activities were the girls perform some Works of Mercy: visiting the elderly at a Nursing Home, collecting items for charitable organizations, etc.

The girls help with the monthly “Cub Scouts/Little Flowers Donuts Sales”.  The donations allow us to help charities, and to fund other projects.

Membership fee to cover snacks, supplies and crafts.
